The Historic Railpark Train Museum and L&N Depot got another piece of history today, just in time for Black History Month.

This Jim Crow Car has been sitting in this warehouse at Trace Die Cast under restoration for the past year and half, but it's journey to the L&N Depot began long before that.

"It ran from Glasgow to Park City for the Glasgow Railway Company starting in the early 1900s," said Friends of L&N Depot President Dick Webber.

It's one of five remaining cars of it's kind used during the Jim Crow era of segregation.

"It brings back the different chapters our country has been through in history, and changes in trying to get to where we need to be. This is an important part of showing that journey," said Historic Railpark Train Museum and L&N Depot Director Paul Crafton.

The car has come a long way after sitting on the side of the tracks for more than 50 years.

"It had been sitting since 1955 abandoned so it was vandalized. It was Robbed. It was destroyed," said Restoration Volunteer Joe Williams.

It took more than a year and a half of work to restore the car to its original condition.

"Hundreds and hundreds of hours of blood, sweat and tears, and love put into this car," said Crafton.

"It had to be rebuilt, except for the two ends, from the chassis up," said Williams.

Most of that work was done by volunteers, and today it finally made its journey down Louisville Rd. to its new home at the Historic Railpark Train Museum and L&N Depot.

The Jim Crow car is currently displayed at the front of the railpark. Tomorrow morning, it will be carefully placed onto the museum tracks where it will undergo its final interior restorations.
