Jobless Rates Improve in Counties Across Kentucky

State officials have released data showing jobless rates improved in October in 101 counties, worsened in 17 and stayed the same in two.

The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training unveiled the latest round of county-level employment information on Tuesday.

Woodford County, in the heart of Kentucky's thoroughbred region, had the lowest unemployment rate at 5.6 percent. Bracken, Caldwell, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Larue, Madison, Oldham, Owen, Shelby, Scott, Union, and Webster counties had jobless rates ranging from 6 to 6.6 percent.

Magoffin County, in the state's Appalachian region, had the worst unemployment rate in the state at 15.5 percent. It was followed by Fulton County in far western Kentucky at 14.7 percent.

Bell, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Leslie and Letcher counties had unemployment rates ranging from 13 percent to 13.5 percent.
