LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (AP) -- A Kentucky man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of murder and robbery in the slaying of a southeastern Indiana woman found fatally beaten with an iron skillet and pepper grinder.
Dearborn Circuit Judge James Humphrey concurred with a jury's recommendation Tuesday that Charles "Steve" Stephenson, 59, of Walton, Ky., spend the rest of his life in prison without the chance for parole.
Stephenson was found guilty in May of fatally beating Leigh Jennings, 67, of Aurora on March 29, 2012. Her body was found a week later in her apartment in Aurora, about 20 miles southwest of Cincinnati.
Police said Stephenson stole $1,000 in cash from Jennings to repay a debt to one of his family members.
