RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky teenager has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in the death of her baby sister.
The Richmond Register reported that 17-year-old Jessica Marcum entered the plea at her arraignment Thursday in Madison Circuit Court.
A judge earlier determined that Marcum should be tried as an adult. Marcum is charged with killing her 9-month-old sister, Bella Rose Marcum. The child died June 11.
Marcum is not eligible for the death penalty if convicted, however she could face a sentence of 20 to 50 years to life in prison.
Marcum's attorney asked Madison Circuit Court Judge Jean C. Logue to reduce Marcum's bond, which was set at $100,000.
Logue said she needed to examine the pretrial information collected by district court before deciding.
