Kentucky Gives Day

For the first time ever, it's almost here. Kentucky Gives Day takes place on Wednesday.

"We're trying to raise as much money as possible for the participating charities, and there are 380 of those from across Kentucky in a 24 hour period through a single website," said Kentucky Nonprofits Network Executive Director Danielle Clore.

The day features online giving for several charities in our area, and you can help by going to kygives.org and donate to a charity of your choosing.

Organizers didn't go in with any specific goals, but are hopeful this will turn out well.

"There's so many variables. Before we launched this, we did a lot of homework with other states and other larger communities who had done this, and really are just kind of anxious to see for our first time just how much money we can raise. Certainly next year, I think we will know better what the benchmarks might be and what's possible," said Clore.

Organizations like Barren River Area Safe Space say fundraisers like this can mean a lot for them.

"We serve 345 women and children each year. A lot of times they come into the shelter with nothing but the clothes on their back. So, this allows us to help them get started with a new life, and to be able to serve their needs. This will give us that opportunity, if they have to relocate or something, we have that little extra money we might be able to help them with," said B.R.A.S.S Domestic Violence Advocate Marta Woosley.

"It's just a great tool for nonprofits who are looking for the most affordable way to generate dollars for their mission, and certainly online giving is a very fast growing way to do that," said Clore.

The opportunity to donate starts at 11 pm CDT and continues through Wednesday night.
