LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The Kentucky Lottery has topped last year's sales record with more than $846 million in revenue for the fiscal year.
The lottery said Friday that the sales surpassed the previous record of $823.5 million set last year, an increase of 2.8 percent.
Lottery Chief Financial Officer Howard Kline says strong sales of $5 and $20 scratch-offs helped boost the year's revenue to a record number. Total scratch-off sales were $522 million.
The sales also set a record for proceeds returned to the state, with $223.8 million for scholarships and grant programs funded by the lottery.
Cash prizes were also up from last year, with $495 million paid out compared to $459 million in 2012.
