FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover is calling for a Kentucky State Police investigation after former Legislative Research Commission Director Bobby Sherman told a newspaper he returned to his office two days after he resigned and shredded documents.

Hoover made the request in a letter to House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Senate President Robert Stivers.

Sherman resigned Friday, but he told The Courier-Journal of Louisville that he returned with other LRC staffers on Sunday to clean out his office and that he shredded some documents.

One of the staffers, Deputy Director Robert Jenkins, said the documents that were destroyed were either duplicates that existed elsewhere or were of a personal nature, including junk mail, mortgage papers and salary information for LRC staff.
