BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) --With less than a week until enrollment opens, local insurance agencies are hard at work.
"We are setting up a call center to help the $340,000 uninsured in Kentucky enroll," said Insurance Specialists' Sean McGuinness.
We won't know how rates will be effected by the new Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange until Oct. 1, when the plans are released, but we do know who the two providers are.
"In the Bowling Green area, there will be Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and a new insurance company in the state of Kentucky called, the Kentucky Health Cooperative," said McGuinness.
We also know anyone who enrolls is eligible for coverage.
"Anyone who enrolls will be guaranteed coverage without any consideration toward your health condition," said McGuinness.
Based on Affordable Care Act standards, those conditions cannot effect rates either, and federal subsidies will be available to help those who cannot afford the premiums.
"Depending on Your income level, you could qualify for 95 percent of your premium being covered or five percent of your premium covered," said McGuinness.
McGuinness says the plans of those who enroll before Dec. 15 will take effect on Jan. 1, but the initial enrollment period is expected to have some hiccups.
"With millions of people trying to enroll in the next 90 days, bouncing against the federal data hub to determine the eligibility. There's just going to be alot of data going through the system, and there could be glitches with it," said McGuinness.
McGuinness says Insurance Specialists will not open their call center for enrollment until Monday, Oct. 7, in hopes of avoiding those issues. He says they will have more information on how individuals can contact their call center for assistance with enrollment in the next few days.
