LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky man arrested in Michigan has been charged with murder stemming from a 2010 shooting in Lexington.
WLEX-TV and WKYT-TV in Lexington reported that 43-year-old Terrence Sims is due in court Friday to face charges he killed 33-year-old Steven Kavanaugh during one of Lexington's bloodiest summers in recent times.
Kavanaugh was found shot to death in June 2010. Police say officers heard the shots and rushed to the scene. They spotted the shooter and chased him, but the suspect got away.
Kavanaugh's death went unsolved until earlier this year, when forensics from an offender from Michigan matched samples from the crime scene in Lexington.
Police say the shooting stemmed from a drug deal that escalated to a struggle before Kavanaugh was shot.
