EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Evansville police say a man flagged down police and surrendered after a convenience store robbery.

Police say 36-year-old John Long flagged down a cruiser about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday and told an officer that he had robbed a store.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports a clerk at a Kangaroo Express store told police that a man with a shirt over his head had demanded money about an hour earlier. The clerk gave the suspect an envelope of cash and he fled.

Police say Long matches the description of the suspect. A shirt similar to one seen in store surveillance video was found near where Long surrendered.

Long's being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a preliminary charge of armed robbery. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
