A Kentucky man has pleaded guilty to lesser charges after a jail failed to send a batch of seized drugs to a crime lab for testing.

The State Journal reports that suspected marijuana and cocaine seized from 28-year-old Keena Turner never made it to the crime lab from the Franklin County Regional Jail in Frankfort.

Turner pleaded guilty on Friday to unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Turner was originally charged with promoting contraband and being a persistent felony offender.

According to the plea agreement, the charges were amended because, "the controlled substances were never sent to the crime laboratory for analysis, despite reminders from the commonwealth to do so."

Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd sentenced Turner to 12 months in jail.
