Man Sentenced to 3 1/2 Years for Sending Gun & Threat

A former corrections officer and gun shop owner from Jefferson County has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for mailing a gun and threatening communications to a federal agent.

U.S. Attorney David J. Hale's office said 48-year-old Ted Ray Schlenker pleaded guilty Oct. 24 to knowingly depositing at the U.S. Post Office in Bowling Green a handwritten threatening letter and a handgun addressed to the home of a special agent for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Russell sentenced Schlenker on Tuesday in Bowling Green and ordered three years' of supervised release.

Prosecutors said an affidavit indicated Schlenker was being investigated by the ATF agent for firearms violations in connection with his shop, Kentucky Gun Runners Inc.
