MANCHESTER, Ky. (AP) -- A judge has handed down a life sentence for a man convicted of killing an eastern Kentucky sheriff more than four decades ago.
Oran Brumley received the sentence on Monday in Clay County Circuit Court.
Brumley, who used to live in the area, was convicted by a jury last month in the fatal shooting of Clay County Sheriff Matt Sizemore in 1969.
Sizemore was shot five times with a high-powered rifle while serving warrants. The slaying went unsolved until last year, when Kentucky State Police arrested Brumley after getting a new tip.
Brumley was already in custody at the time in Ohio, where he was serving a sentence for fatally stabbing an 80-year-old man.
