BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Four area mayors gathered to recognize volunteers today.

The mayors of Bowling Green, Russellville, Glasgow and Scottsville, along with foster grandparents, retired and senior volunteers, and elementary school children, were all on hand to highlight the impact volunteers have on our community and read a proclamation.

"We have similar missions with the mayors. We want to improve the lives of individuals and citizens. We want to promote civic involvement. We want to improve communities. So, we're recognizing each other and encouraging others to join us," said Cheryl Allen, the CEO of Community Action of Southern Kentucky.

Last year, the Community Action Center had 118 foster grandparents provide assistance to about 270 children and teens.

Almost 150 retired and senior volunteers completed more than 13,000 hours of service.
