McConnell Ad Shows Duke Briefly Winning Championship

"The ad was intended to highlight Kentucky's basketball dominance and obviously the web ad vendor has become so accustomed to watching national championship celebrations in the bluegrass state that they made a mistake with one of the images.  Obviously we were horrified by the error and quickly changed it," said Moore.

(WBKO) -- A recent political advertisement for republican Sen. Mitch McConnell showed a brief clip of Duke winning a past Championship.

The error was noted by Louisville media member Joe Sonka, who was not allowed into a McConnell event recently.

The ad talks mentions such topics such as conservative reform, restoring economic mobility to the middle class and becoming Senate Majority Leader.

Toward the end of the ad, several images flash including University of Louisville and Duke winning the NCAA National Championship in 2010.

McConnell's spokesperson Allison Moore said they were horrified about the error.

"The ad was intended to highlight Kentucky's basketball dominance and obviously the web ad vendor has become so accustomed to watching national championship celebrations in the bluegrass state that they made a mistake with one of the images. Obviously we were horrified by the error and quickly changed it," said Moore.

Charly Norton, a spokesperson in the Alison Lundergan Grimes camp sent WBKO this statement.

"After 30 years in Washington, DC, Mitch McConnell has clearly lost touch with Kentucky. It turns out he has been in Washington so long he does not even know the difference between Kentucky and Duke basketball," said Norton.

Both McConnell and Grimes face primary elections coming up in May they would have to win before they face each other.
