This afternoon the Medical Center hosted its annual "Heroes" event.

It gave parents the opportunity to let their children trick or treat in a safe environment.

However, the purpose of the event went beyond candy and fun.

It was a chance for children to interact with first responder in a calming environment.

"Fire departments, police officers, Warren County Sheriff's office, ambulances -- a lot of the times when they see us it's not a fun experience for them, so this is a more positive spin on things. So they can interact with us and know that we're safe -- they can trust us," said Kendra Messenger, a paramedic.

It was the third year for the event and 750 people were there.
