FRANKLIN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Folks in Franklin gathered this weekend to thank past and present service men and women for their service.

All the military organizations in the town started the weekend by putting flags on each veteran's grave on Saturday.

A ceremony was held Sunday afternoon at the Green Lawn Cemetery.

Olita Dearing of AMVETS Post 110 Ladies Auxillary says veterans should be thanked for their contribution's to our country.

"That's where we got our freedom from. That's why we have the opportunity to live the way we live, go to church, send our children to school. They are the backbone to our country. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the freedom we have today," says Dearing.

Dearing also says we should honor military families for the sacrifices they make.

A Memorial Day service was also held in Auburn Sunday afternoon.
