More Commercial Development May Be On The Horizon For Bowling Green

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) - Commercial development is booming in Bowling Green. A short drive around town shows a future Bed Bath & Beyond, grading work at the site for the cities first Meijer location and smaller businesses are coming to areas of Campbell Lane and Scottsville Road.

Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson says more may be yet to come.

"We meet with new industry prospects, weekly would be a better way to say it, but when we meet with those prospects it's always a long lead time into whether or not they choose this community so we always have a lot in the pipeline," says Wilkerson.

Commercial businesses are expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to the area. No matter if it's a home, or business, construction jobs within the city are also on the rise.

"In Bowling Green we've had a very good climate for construction and it seems like we always have something going on," says Wilkerson.

Now, the busy construction season is expanding outside city limits.

"The southern part of the county is where we see the residential development," says Director of Warren County Public Works Mac Yowell.

Several new sub divisions have been built near South Warren High School. The increase in homes brings a chance for commercial development, with a future Crossroads IGA on 31W. The building boom in the area stems from prized pieces of land.

"Even though some of the developments hit rock, essentially the land is pretty flat and that's because it's good farm land," says Yowell.

The county says permits for new homes in that area of the county continue to rise.
