Muhlenberg County Prepares for Watson Family Funeral

"Whatever the Watson family needs, that is what we will do," said Principal Bumps, Muhlenberg County High East Campus.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- "Whatever the Watson family needs, that is what we will do," said Principal Bumps, Muhlenberg County High East Campus.

The entire Muhlenberg community shares this sentiment while preparing for the funeral service of the Watson family. Nikki Watson and eight of her children died last week, after a baseboard heater caused their home to go up in flames.

The memorial services will be held at Muhlenberg County High West Campus. Family will gather in the Felix E. Martin Junior Hall, in a reserved section. Memorial coordinators say friends and community members are welcome.

"Once that particular hall becomes full, we will begin to fill up our band room. Once that begins to fill, we will ask others to proceed to the gym. We will have a live feed during the service," said Principal Bumps, Muhlenberg County High East Campus.

Four family friends and preachers are expected to conduct tomorrow's service.

"Tim Burton, Adam Brown, Scott Casebier and Brad St. George.

We've also learned Senator, Mitch McConnell and U.S. Representative, Ed Whitfield will be attending.

As respect and safety are very important during this time of grieving, police and fire officials will be present in the parking lot, to assist.

The Ag Center and Second Baptist Church will house overflow parking. Shuttles will be available, between 10:45 and 12:45.

Services will begin promptly at one o'clock. Tucker Funeral Home, located in Central City, is funding the funeral expenses.

"Originally, it was reported that The Band Perry was going to do that, but we wanted to take care of our own community. So, it was really important that we did that," said Ted Tucker, Tucker Funeral Home.

The Band Perry plans to pay for the monuments. The cost of the graves will be absorbed by Rose Hill Monuments.

"It's important to love and embrace and when your community is hurting, it's important to do what you can,” said Ted Tucker, Tucker Funeral Home. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
