100 years ago today, Harriet Tubman died, leaving her legacy in helping free the slaves.

The NAACP of Bowling Green and Warren County honored her life by walking around Downtown Bowling Green, as she did on the Underground Railroad in the late 19th century.

Tubman made 19 trips back to the South, guiding more than 300 slaves to freedom.

NAACP Member Tamara Glass says it's not only important to honor her because of her actions, but because March is Women's History Month.

"It was unusual for women during that time to step forward and take a leadership role because during that time women were not leaders," Glass says.

At 4:30 EST today, people all over the nation walked in honor of Harriet Tubman.
