Several thousand people from across the country filled into Park Mammoth Resort to check out one of the largest dirt bike and ATV racing series.

Between the crews, racers, and their families, organizers of the event say they poured a whole lot of money into the area.

"When we come into communities like this, we bring about 3 million dollars in, between the hotels and the restaurants, the gas stations," says Jen Kenyon, the Media Manager for the Grand National Cross Country Series.

The co-owner of Park Mammoth Resort says their on-site lodge benefited from the race.

"We have a hundred guest rooms in our hotel and we've been booked and sold out forever," says Nick Noble, the co-owner of Park Mammoth Resort.

Many of the racers and their families say the tough economy isn't stopping them from shelling out cash and coming out to events like these.

One South Carolina man, who drove down in a camper, paid 600 dollars in gas alone just to see his son race.

"We never let the gas prices interfere with what he wants to do. For the simple fact, if he's not doing that, not doing the racing, he'll be doing something," says Jeff Ponder, who had a son in a race.

Another racer and his family, who also came down from South Carolina, opted to stay at a hotel.

"The economy is really tough right now, but I've been racing since I was four so we try to do everything we can to make it to every race," says Cody Gregg, a dirt bike racer.

As for the spectators, many drove several hours across the state for the love of the sport.

One woman from Louisville says she got creative to cut costs.

"We came down as a group so everything's been split. I pulled out 50 dollars, we each did," says Ashley Miller, who came down from Louisville to watch the race.

Organizers say they are considering having the event at the Park Mammoth Resort again next year.

The Grand National Cross Country Series says between Saturday and Sunday, they had an estimated four thousand people at the weekend event.
