Not Everyone A Fan Of Expanded Medicaid

Governor Steve Beshear hopes adding 308,000 more Kentuckians to Medicaid will ensure everyone can get affordable health insurance, but not everyone agrees.

Congressman Brett Guthrie says Thursday's announcement by Steve Beshear is another example of why our nation needs health care reform. He says the nation continues to fall deeper into debt and the current health care system will eventually cause Medicaid and Medicare to fall into debt.

"Expanding Medicaid without reforming the program is going to continue to consume state budgets, it's going to continue to consume the federal budget and it's going to get to the point where we are not going to be able to hand our kids the country we want to give them," says Guthrie.

Governor Steve Beshear says the Medicaid expansion will create 17,000 jobs and have a 15.6 billion dollar impact on the state. The expansion was part of the Federal Affordable Care Act.
