STANTON, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky environmental officials say several hundred gallons of crude oil have spilled into a stream in eastern Kentucky.
Dick Brown, a spokesman for Kentucky's Energy and Environment Cabinet, said Friday the oil spilled from an abandoned tank into the South Fork of the Red River in Powell County. He says the spill has been contained and he's unaware of any water supplies being threatened.
Authorities were notified of the spill Thursday. Brown says the cause of the spill has not been determined.
Brown says the state has hired a contractor to handle the cleanup.
