GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) -- A petition to allow alcohol sales in a Grayson precinct has been submitted to the Carter County Clerk's Office.
Keith Bays told The Independent (http://bit.ly/VyheUK) that he submitted 44 signatures Monday and 33 must be verified as registered voters for a referendum to be held. He said he is seeking an election on the issue in January.
Bays said he hopes the effort will lead to land near Interstate 64 being developed by national restaurant chains.
Currently, the only place where alcohol sales are legal in Carter County is at the Rock Springs Winery near Carter City.
