While the Centers for Disease Control says the flu season usually does not peak until January or February, it can start in the middle of the fall. A local pharmacist says right now is a good time to get your shot, because they can take up to two weeks to become effective.
"Now is a good time, especially if you're wanting to beat the crowd in, and also right before the flu season starts to really hit. Last year it seemed like October through the winter months was really prevalent," said Sheldon's Express Pharmacy Pharmacist Shaun Curtis.
The CDC says if you get the shot now, it should last the entire season. They recommend everyone over the age of six months gets a flu vaccine every year, no later than October.
