BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Bowling Green Police say a man became engulfed in flames outside the Motor City Bar and Grill on Cumberland Trace Road around 9:45 Sunday night.

Police say the fire was put out by restaurant patrons by the time EMS, fire, and police officials arrived.

Police say Anthony Joe Maddux, 49, told them he had doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire.

Maddux was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where he died Monday morning.

Firefighters found the Maddux badly burned and missing most of his clothing. He told police he did it to himself.
