Preventing Local Flooding

With all the rainfall over the weekend, there's flooding in many parts of south central Kentucky.

Not so in Warren County though, which did not report any major flooding or road closures.

The county Department of Public Works says this is due to the natural infrastructure created by the cave system.

The county actually has very few man-made sewer systems.

"We have retention basins that hold water, and most of them have a dry well, or a sinkhole box in the bottom that funnels that water into the underground system," said Warren County Public Works Director Mac Yowell.

Yowell says the lack of rain recently helped ensure more room for the large amount of rainfall this weekend.

He also said the county now has a storm water management crew to monitor and maintain these retention basins.
