They are known as IEH Laboratories and they just opened in Scottsville.

"There's nothing like it in south central Kentucky," said Scottsville/Allen County Economic Development Director Richie Sanders.

They are a food testing lab that makes sure your food is safe and can also approve new food products.

"This company currently tests over 70% of the produce sold in all of the United States and about 80% of the beef sold in the United States," said Sanders.

Not only is it one of a kind in our area it's bringing a few jobs as well.

"It's a bright day in Scottsville and Allen County when we can add the jobs, when we can be progressive, when we can be looking forward to the rest of the 21st century in terms of job creation," said Rep. Wilson Stone D-Scottsville.

Officials say its not about the number of jobs coming, but what it could do to the area and everyone agrees it can bring more development to the region.

"We're talking six to eight jobs maybe, but we see that this can be a great expansion for our area over south central Kentucky with them being located here," said Scottsville Mayor Rob Cline.

"We felt like having them here will enable us to go out and recruit more food companies and companies that need their service," said Sanders.

"There will be a lot of companies that would consider south central Kentucky now because of the proximity to the food lab," said Stone.

While this lab just opened officials hope it will become a 24 hour operation and create even more jobs.

Sanders says there are already Western Kentucky University students who are applying to work at IEH Labs.
