"This man is from Bowling Green, but his father served in the Korean War and was a prisoner of war, so it was very gratifying to be able to find these medals again for him," said Sen. Paul.

Bowling Green, Ky. -The family of a military hero from Kentucky was given back a piece of his history today. A Bowling Green man and his family remembered the service of his father with the help of Senator Rand Paul.

"We can restore medals to people who have either lost medals or through moves or travels can no longer find the medals for their family," said Sen. Rand Paul.

Family members like Col. George Hickey, who's been searching years for his father's medals.

"I never was able to get these medals, and I'm very glad the senator was able to get them for me," said Col. George Hickey.

"This man is from Bowling Green, but his father served in the Korean War and was a prisoner of war, so it was very gratifying to be able to find these medals again for him," said Sen. Paul.

Airman first class Billy Hickey from Rockcastle County, now deceased, was a Korean War Veteran and prisoner of war for nearly three years. Hickey says he doesn't recall his father ever talking about that time in Korea.

"All I know is that he was captured in the war for 33 or 34 months," said Hickey.

Hickey's grandchildren were able to witness the medal ceremony, and he hopes they gain an appreciation of the importance of this day.

"I hope all my little muskrats learn that when you really and truly try hard enough, you can get what you deserve," said Hickey.

On behalf of his father, Hickey accepted the medals for Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Korean Service with Silver Star Attachment, and the United Nations Service Medal.

In addition to his four years as an Airman First Class, Billy Hickey also served four years as a Private First Class in the Army.
