"One in eight babies die in Kentucky before their first birthday every year, and our mission here in Kentucky is to drop that rate.  We want every baby in Kentucky to be born full term and to be born healthy," said March of Dimes state and local board member Fida Georges.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) --It's the mission of the March of Dimes to prevent prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality, which is something one March of Dimes state board member says there is way too much of in Kentucky.

"One in eight babies die in Kentucky before their first birthday every year, and our mission here in Kentucky is to drop that rate. We want every baby in Kentucky to be born full term and to be born healthy," said March of Dimes state and local board member Fida Georges.

Georges knows first hand the life saving impact of the organization.
"Through the March of Dimes, I know that my twin boys were able to survive six very challenging weeks in the NICU," said Georges.

She's not the only one who feels that way. Marissa Butler says they helped save her son, Ramsey.

"When the unexpected happened and my water broke and we went into premature labor, just the lifesaving research that March of Dimes has helped fund. It's just amazing the strides the medical industry has made," said March of Dimes ambassador mom Marissa Butler.

The funding for that research was helped by local restaurants, performers and donors during the dinner and auctions.

"It's been a great event for people to learn about the March of Dimes. It's about saving babies, and I think the people really know what the March of Dimes really does, and know the money stays here locally," said March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction Chair Regina Webb.

Webb says in the past seven years she's chaired the event she's seen growth in community support, which she hopes will continue.
