Officials in a southern Kentucky city are taking action to transform a local eyesore into a small community park.

The Commonwealth Journal reports that City Council members in Somerset recently approved plans calling for some benches and possibly a fountain at a site where apartments once stood.

The apartment building was torn down in 2012 after standing vacant for about six years — ever since incurring damage from an explosion caused by a methamphetamine lab.

Businesses near the site expressed support for the plans.

City Councilor John Ricky Minton said the city should look at the possibility of building more small parks for residents.
