BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Seven students have earned GED diplomas in Spanish through a program at Western Kentucky University.
The South Central Area Health Education Center is the only GED program in the Bowling Green area that is taught in Spanish.
Program director Lucy Juett said in a new release that while it is important for all immigrants to learn to speak English, it is much faster for Spanish-speakers to pass the GED in their native language. And completing the GED can lead to an increase in salary.
The South Central Area Health Education Center receives funding for the Spanish GED classes from a Community Development Block Grant with the City of Bowling Green and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
