OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) — Tourism spending in Daviess County jumped $10 million last year, according to a new state report.

The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports Daviess is part of the nine-county Bluegrass, Blues and Barbecue region, which saw $310 million in direct spending last year, a 4.4 percent increase.

The new report also found that the Kentucky Bourbon Trail reported a record 509,000 visitors in 2012. That's a 15 percent increase over the previous year.

The latest survey says tourism was responsible for more than 174,000 jobs in Kentucky in 2012 — an increase of more than 4,000 jobs. Those jobs generated more than $2.7 billion in wages for Kentucky workers.

Tourism generated more than $1.2 billion in taxes for local and state governments in 2012.
