**UPDATE** 19-year-old in Critical Condition after Jump from WKU Dormitory

Today, a window is boarded up at Pearce Ford Tower, a student dormitory here on WKU's campus. This was the scene at about 2:30 this morning, not long after police say a 19 year old male student jumped from a 6th floor window.

"At approximately one o'clock this morning, a student jumped from the sixth floor of PFT. He has been life flighted to Vanderbilt," said WKU Police Communications Officer Mandi Johnson.

A student who was inside the dorm says he heard the glass break from inside.

"It sounded pretty clear. We looked out the window and didn't see much but we heard a cop car," said WKU student Alan Fortier.

That's when Fortier says he walked outside and saw the student on the ground.

"Didn't know what to expect. We walked out and people told us a guy jumped out from the sixth floor... pretty sad," said Fortier.

The statement from WKU says the windows in the dorm are a quarter-inch think tempered glass and there is a "window stop" to prevent the window from being opened more than 3 inches.

"During our search, that safety bar was still intact on the window," said Johnson.

WKU says the window was closed, but the glass had been broken.
Police say there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs found in the initial police search of the room.
The family has been notified of the incident, and the investigation is ongoing, while the name of the student has not been released.

The university said in their release the student remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

This is not the first incident involving a student jumping from Pearce Ford Tower.
In 2006, a WKU student jumped from his window on the 20th floor of Pearce Ford Tower, and died when he disabled the safety bar on his window and opened it.
