VFW Flag Day Ceremony Remembers Fallen Soldier

It was a beautiful day for area veterans to gather at the VFW Post in Bowling Green in honor of Flag Day.

One VFW commander says Flag Day is significant to all Americans, particularly veterans. Today, they remember those who sacrificed their lives for what our flag represents.

"We placed the flag on Lt. Rob Henderson's grave marker here to our right. He was one of the first Bowling Green natives to fall in combat in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Every Flag Day, we place a new wreath on his marker, and we retired our old post flag which was the first to be retired into the fire," said VFW Post 1298 Commander J.R. Nielson.

Following the ceremony, the post members retired dozens of damaged flags brought to them by the community.
