WHAT EVENTS ARE GOING ON AT HOLLEY LS FEST THIS WEEKEND?
Drag Racing, Auto Cross, Drift Challenge and new this year a Speed, Stop and Steering Challenge.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - It was burnt rubber and pedal to the metal for the first day of the Holley LS Fest. Hundreds of drivers hoped to prove their skills on the track during the Autocross event.
"Basically just to test and try out the suspension and everything and see what you can and can't do with it and adjust," says Josh Petry, who traveled from Indiana to race.
After watching a few runs I decided to try it out for myself. I strapped on my helmet and hopped in the car with Josh Petry. He took me for quite a ride.
We zigged and zagged our way around the track for the fastest time, without hitting any cones. A ride like I had is how many drivers get started.
"Knowing a bunch of people that have done it and just watching them and it's just something I always wanted to try and do. First time was about like you, I rode with someone and then I wanted to drive," says Petry.
With the popularity of Autocross expanding drivers who may be unfamiliar are now making a name for themselves. Lynda Jacobs, from Illinois, has a husband who is passionate about cars and now it's been passed on to her.
"We got interested in it because we had another car, a C5 corvette, and it was a convertible and we could not road course race it so with the convertible now, Autocross is acceptable without a roll bar or roll cage," says Jacobs.
Jacobs hopes her need for speed will also bring more women to the track.
"This is such a wonderful sport for women and I know that there is other wives and girlfriends that are starting to get involved. Stacy Tucker from Detroit Speed is an inspiration to all of us as is Mary Posey. They get out there and run with the best of the boys," says Jacobs.
No matter if you're male, or female, drivers say this weekends Holley LS Fest has something for everyone.
