WKU Brings Back "Safe Ride Home" Program

Updated: Wed 8:53 PM, Aug 22, 2012

After receiving feedback from students, WKU is bringing back the safe ride home program.

It used to be a call-in bus service with the goal of providing a safe alternative for those who had been drinking and needed a way home.

The demand became to high when students started using it for other purposes.

Parking and Transportation Services and the Student Government Association teamed up to find a way to bring it back.

"That's the goal of the program overall, to really reduce drinking and driving, and to provide a safe alternative for people that find they're stuck somewhere without a way home."

The service will now be known as the "Purple Line." It will be a fixed route service that will be available to students and the public. It will run every 15 min from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
It will begin running on Aug. 23.
