BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - The estimated 640,000 uninsured Kentuckians proved too much for the online marketplace for health insurance.

The KYNECT website was closed to online applications by mid morning on Tuesday.

Insurance Specialists in Bowling Green was unable to check out the states newest plans from Anthem and Kentucky Health Cooperative.

"We thought by now we would have the opportunity to review those plans, compare those plans, compare the premiums and more important compare how much subsidies or premium assistance individuals will be receiving," says Sean McGuinness.

The glitches online didn't come as a surprise. McGunniess says the anticipation has been building since the Affordable Care Act passed in 2010.

"I think folks want that piece of mind that they have a document that says I am enrolled even though it doesn't take affect until 3 months later," says McGuinness

Plans kicking in on January 1st hasn't slowed phone calls at the Kentucky Health Cooperative. They expect to busy for the next few weeks.

"We anticipate that it will slow down some and we expect it will slow down after Thanksgiving until the holidays and probably pick up again on January 1," says Communications Director, Susan Dunlap

With weeks still to spare, insurance specialists want to remind everyone this is only the first day of enrollment.

"Our advice to everyone is just be patient. Probably wait a couple days before you try to get online," says McGuinness

The KYNECT website was back up and running by the afternoon on Tuesday.
