"We read alot at home, and I think any opportunity to build a home library of books and promote literacy, especially if it's free is a great idea," said parent of participant Mike Johnson.

Hundreds of area children will have books thanks to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. It allows any child age five and under a free book each month.

"The program is really important because literacy is really important, and parents spending time with their children reading is so important," said Wendy's of Bowling Green Vice President of Sales and Marketing Bayne Million.

One area educator and parent of toddlers agreed.

"We read alot at home, and I think any opportunity to build a home library of books and promote literacy, especially if it's free is a great idea," said parent of participant Mike Johnson.

Parents weren't the only ones signing up their children.

"We came here for our cousin Trenton. It's his birthday today, and we came to sign up so we can get him some books," said Nicole Milam.

She and her brother know first hand the importance of reading at a young age.

"I started reading when I was in first grade. I read mostly Magic Tree House and Cam Jansen books," said Tristan Milam.

Thanks to Wendy's children will receive those books for free.

"Each middle income family has 13 books that are age appropriate to a children. When in lower income families they have one book for every 300 children. It's a great discrepancy between the two. That's really what this program is aimed towards."

Million says with one book a month, any child can have the tools to succeed.

United Way enrolled 625 children today, doubling their enrollment for the year in Allen, Barren, Logan and Warren counties.
