COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Emergency officials say a white powder found in an envelope at an IRS building in northern Kentucky did not pose a threat.
Kenton County police and fire dispatcher Lori Auton says a hazardous materials crew was called to the building in Covington around 7 a.m. EDT Wednesday. Auton says the substance was found by an employee at the IRS facility.
She says the powder did not pose a threat and no injuries were reported. Auton says the immediate area where the substance was found was cleared until authorities determined the powder was not hazardous.
IRS spokesman Luis Garcia says the all-clear was given at 9:30 a.m.
Garcia says about 1,500 employees work at the IRS facility, which processes business tax returns and payments from across the country.
