Hurricane Sandy is expected to bring snow to far southeastern Kentucky.

A winter storm warning is in effect in Harlan, Letcher and Pike counties through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, snow could accumulate from 4 to 10 inches above 2,000 feet with 1 to 3 inches in lower elevations.

Most the precipitation will take the form of rain, but it will likely mix with and change to wet snow overnight.

Strong, gusty winds of up to 40 mph are expected below 2,000 feet.

In higher elevations, sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with possible gusts of up to 50 mph could lead to near-blizzard conditions at times.

The strong winds and heavy, wet snow are expected to bring down tree limbs, causing power outages.
