BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - On May 30, an average day at the office inside the Warren County Justice Center turned into a life or death situation for Assistant Warren County Attorney Leslie Bucklew.

"It was a little bit after quitting time. I was talking with one of our workers, Bonnie, who was asking about my mother who was in the hospital at the time and then the next thing I know I am coming to in the emergency room," says Bucklew.

Bucklew collapsed in the office after an apparent heart attack. Employees scrambled to call 911, but one young man took matters into his own hands.

"Whenever I noticed that he wasn't breathing I started CPR. I had to rip off his shirt and start compression's just to make sure life could be sustained," says Byron Turner.

For his heroic actions that day, Turner was honored at a recent meeting of Warren County Fiscal Court. The American Red Cross presented him with a certificate of recognition. Turner's work with Bowling Green Parks & Rec allowed him to be CPR certified through the Red Cross.

"It was just kind of one of those things that, oh I am going to learn this but I don't think I will ever have to use it and you hope you never have to use it," says Turner.

But his training was put into action, saving the life one man, and becoming a hero of the Warren County Justice Center.

"If Byron had not have been there it would have been a total different outcome. I think I would have died," says Bucklew.

"I was doing what I was trained to do. I did the right thing and I feel like it's more important to focus on Leslie's health now. He is doing a lot better," says Turner.

For his quick thinking that saved a life, we honor Byron Turner as week's Hometown Hero.
