FORT KNOX, Ky. (WBKO) - For Jenna Orton, Independence Day has a different feeling since she met the love of her life.
"When we see the fireworks go off to me it feels like those fireworks are going off for my husband. Not just when you're younger and you see them, now it has a lot of meaning behind it," says Orton.
Jenna's husband Matthew is deployed in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army. The couple married last August at an emotional time in Jeanna's life. She was a single mother with her daughter Ailla, unsure where her life was heading.
"I really didn't think that I would find love again or that I would really be happy again. Of course my daughter makes me happy but other than that I really didn't think I would move on past all that pain and stuff and then I met him and my whole life changed," says Orton.
Jenna says Matt saved her life and her family, but his actions go even further by fighting each day for our freedom.
"He absolutely loves this country. He re-enlisted while he was over there just because he wants to fight for people that can't," says Orton.
Jenna says her husband doesn't want the recognition, but instead for everyone to live each day to the fullest.
"That's what he does it for. That's why we all do this is just so everyone can live their life and do with it what they will," says Orton.
In honor of Independence Day we salute Matthew Orton and all our servicemen and women as this week's Hometown Hero.
