BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Local catholic leaders in South Central Kentucky are encouraged by recent comments made by Pope Francis concerning gays and the catholic church.
Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Bowling Green says being open to those of homosexuality is something the church has been teaching for years. They say the difference between the current pope and ones from the past is the terminology they have used.
"It's the same thing that Pope Benedict said, it's the same thing that John Paul II said, but his two immediate predecessors were very much academics and because they were academics, they talked liked academics," says Father Daniel Dillard.
Although it may be similar comments made by the pope, gay rights groups across the United States say it's a positive step forward for the Catholic Church.
