"We are heavily patrolling that area and just hope we can catch the individuals responsible for it," says Smith.

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) - The muddy mess left Friday morning at Basil Griffin Park wasn't from overnight rain.

"Vandalism to this level has not happened in our system for many many years," says Director of Warren County Parks & Rec., Chris Kummer.

Overnight Thursday, vandals broke into a concession stand, cutting a water line and sending hundreds of gallons of water flowing for hours. Employees got to work early Friday morning fixing the pipe, but it's another added expense on an already tight budget.

"For an undetermined amount of time that water ran. We have had to go get supplies and materials and bring in extra labor today to help fix the issue. So all that costs money," says Kummer.

And it wasn't the only repair needing attention.

"Also last night we had someone try to break into the inline hockey rink concession stand. That was here at Basil Griffin Park and then last night we also have somebody try to break into Buchanon Park and our maintenance facility," says Kummer.

The Warren County Sheriff's Department is aware of the ongoing vandalism at county parks. They say because it's occurring after dark, when the gates are locked, the suspects will be facing additional charges.

"Its been an ongoing problem for about the last three weeks and we are taking it very seriously. We have a lot invested in those parks and we like to take care of them we hate to see them damaged like that for no reason," says Major Tommy Smith.

The sheriff's department is investigating if the recent string of vandalism is related and if multiple people are involved. For now, they hope a proactive approach will stop any further crime.

"We are heavily patrolling that area and just hope we can catch the individuals responsible for it," says Smith.

Cameras are located in some Warren County parks and that video could be used to help find the vandals.
