Williams Mum on Potential Run for Governor

The Burkesville lawyer who serves as president of the state Senate told reporters Tuesday he'll make his intentions known soon.

Williams has acknowledged that he has spoken with Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer about forming a ticket to run for governor and lieutenant governor. Farmer, a former University of Kentucky basketball star, has said he is mulling his options.

Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear has already begun fundraising for an re-election bid with Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson as his running mate.

Lexington attorney Gatewood Galbraith has announced he will run for governor as an independent candidate with political strategist Dea Riley as his running mate.

Louisville businessman Phil Moffett has already announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination. Republican state Rep. Mike Harmon of Danville is his running mate.
