A mine safety bill is on its way to the Senate after a unanimous vote in the House of Representatives.
The legislation would give coal miners more protection in their underground workplaces. Rep. Brent Yonts said the bill gives hope to coal miners by increasing the presence of state inspectors at each operation.
The bill also includes methane detectors that will allow miners to monitor buildup of explosive gas.
Another key provision in the legislation would require a minimum of six state inspections at underground mines per year.
