More Non-Profits Plead to Not be Cut by Warren County

Asking the magistrates to keep from cutting their programs Friday, March 30, 2007, were Community Action of Southern Kentucky, the Downtown Redevelopment Authority, the Bowling Green Public Library, the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society, Kids on the Block and the Bowling Green-Warren County Welfare Department.

Although it is 90 percent funded by city and county government, it is not a mandatory governmental department, so it is also fighting for its life.

"What's being talked about is cutting out half of our budget ... $70,000. We have a small trust fund that I guess we can break into and probably could operate for six months on. After that, we would have to cut back to a part-time agency of maybe one or two days a week," BG-WC Welfare Department Board Chairman, Pastor John Wesley said.

Warren Fiscal Court will be reviewing all areas of the budget for the next three weeks to determine how to make up for a nearly $3,000,000 budget shortfall.
