Governor Fletcher signs an executive order establishing funding framework to assist counties impacted by the lowering of Lake Cumberland.
The funding will address immediate public safety concerns and other harmful effects caused by the lower water level. Earlier this year, the Army Corps of Engineers classified the dam as high risk for structural failure.
Lake Cumberland had to be lowered for the corps to work on the dam. Governor Fletcher said we must make sure Kentuckians in these counties are safe and have reliable clean drinking water and utility services.
Several utilities have started taking steps that will allow them to continue to draw water from the lake, even if it has to be lowered more.
Affected communities can apply to the Governor's Office for Local Development for financial assistance.
