With the May 22, primary just around the corner, Governor Ernie Fletcher has widened his fundraising lead over his top opponent in the Republican primary.
The governor has taken in $268,000 over a two-week period that ended on May 7, 2007.
Former U.S. Representative Anne Northup raised nearly $97,000 over the same period.
The latest Fletcher Campaign finance report shows Fletcher has raised more than $3.2 million since he entered the primary.
Meanwhile, the race for the Republican ticket continues to heat up. Now Kentucky’s estranged lieutenant governor has appeared in a new television ad criticizing Fletcher.
In the ad for Anne Northup, Steve Pence said the governor failed to “clean up Frankfort” and “risks an even greater scandal with his secret legal defense fund.”
Fletcher’s campaign manager said it’s no surprise the lieutenant governor was backing a Fletcher rival.
